Vulnerability. The Strength of Rivers.
In an abstract series on female vulnerability and violence, the artist uses the metaphor of a river, connecting it to women as symbols of life, strength, and beauty. By choosing real rivers with female names, the artist highlights the universality of violence against women, a problem that exists across societies and cultural traditions worldwide.
For the artist, the river embodies womanhood: it gives life, serves as a source of resources and power, yet still faces depletion, destruction, and suffering. Through these works, the artist conveys the wounds and pain of women who experience violence and abuse. The act of stitching the rivers becomes a metaphor for healing and hope, symbolizing new streams of life and possibility.
The titles of the paintings carry significant meaning—some are intentionally left without names, marked only by the country, emphasizing the scale of female oppression in these regions and the way women are often stripped of their identity in society’s eyes. This series is not just an artistic statement but a call for awareness and change.
